Down by the river,
Catfishin’ with chicken liver--
Caught a shoe with a holey sole,
A bicycle tire with a big ol’ hole,
A rusty pail, a baseball cap,
One red glove, a soggy map.
Reeled in an overdue library book,
A pork rind and a grappling hook,
A broken chair, an apple core,
A skateboard and a dresser drawer,
A coffee can, a diving mask,
A crumpled kite, a silver flask,
A microwave, a frying pan,
The kitchen sink, a ceiling fan,
A newspaper, a chandelier,
A whole six-pack of cold root beer,
A mustache comb, two candlesticks,
A picture frame, a bag of bricks,
A lunch box and banana peel,
A cowboy hat, a steering wheel,
A lawn mower, a license plate,
A ball of string, a roller skate.
There’s lots I’m catchin’, but fish I ain’t.
Perhaps it’s time to change my bait.
